Hello, here is a quick summary of the servers - what we have available and how to access it
Accessible from anywhere
These services can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. And the login process for both of them is fairly similar - on a browser just open the link and log in, for the apps you have to tell them which server to connect to (which is the same link you would use on the browser) and then log in all the same.
- Nextcloud - A google drive and docs alternative.
- nextcloud.unitedfriedfront.xyz
- Accessible through browsers and apps. (nextcloud app)
- Runs onlyoffice for document editing. Unfortunately it supports editing only on browsers, but it is a functional microsoft word replacement
- You can make public links to folders and documents, same as google drive.
- Jellyfin - A netflix and spotify alternative.
- jellyfin.unitedfriedfront.xyz
- Accessible through browsers and apps:
- Jellyfin - the default app, does everything. Its functional but slightly buggy
- Swiftfin - for movies and shows, maybe only on ios but its good
- Finamp - for music specifically
- You can watch shows and movies here
- There is also a book and pdf archive but this isnt the best for reading imo
- We can share links to specific content amongst us btw
Accessible through tailscale (vpn)
For these services we have an extra layer of security because I did not want them exposed to the open internet. To access them you are going to need tailscale - it is a vpn which only creates a secure tunnel between your computer and my servers. To get this set up, let me know and we can get this sorted.
Navigating tailscale
I just wanted to add in this paragraph bc this is usually a confusing part - one of the main things with these services is that the IP that I use might be different from the one that you need to use, but its easy to find. The main thing to know is which device you are looking for.
Start by going to the admin console (linked here) of tailscale and log in to your account (either the UFF account or your own account, depending on how we set it up) - then you should see a list of devices, find the one you need and on the row of the device you should see an adress column with the IP adress you need.
The Services:
- File shares
SMB shares or Samba shares are basically harddrives that you connect to through the internet. Also sometimes called network shares or network drives...
- Server info
- Server name on tailscale - truenas-scale
- ip from the UFF tailscale account: 100.71.160.108 - note that if the device was shared out to your private account the ip may be different
- SMB Share names - Archive, Jellyfin and there are also private shares
- How to connect
- Windows 10 - youtube video - the 'folder' should look like this: \\100.71.160.108\Archive (for example, replace the IP and smb share name with what you need) and then click connect with different credentials
- Windows 11 - generally the same as windows 10 but the layout is a bit different but here is a youtuber who has made a video about it
- MacOS - heres a youtuber from 5 years ago - tbh macos hasnt functionally changed that much, anyway - you will need to type in smb://100.71.160.108/Archive (replace the IP and smb share name with what you need) and then click registered user
- Linux - generally if youre using ubuntu or debian you will have the file browser where you can probably find the connect to server button for example heres a dude on a very different looking user interface but the idea is the same and you also end up typing in smb://100.71.160.108/Archive similar to macos but this might look very different depending on your linux distro so try googling how to mount an smb share, you will also see a lot of ways to do it through the terminal and config files which is needed if youre doing technical stuff but for your linux laptop there must be a way to do it through the user interface but yea lmk ill help out here
- WebHost
Here we host our websites. If you want to host your website on the server, let me know and we can get it set up!
- Server info
- Server name on tailscale - webhost
- ip from the UFF tailscale account: 100.83.88.95 - note that if the device was shared out to your private account the ip may be different
- How to connect
- We connect using sftp and I recommend using Filezilla for this. Once you have it installed at the top of the screen you will see host, username, password and port. Fill those in and then navigate to /var/www/ and there will be a folder with your website.
- Host - either 100.83.88.95 from the UFF account or the ip you see for webhost
- Username - your username
- Password - your password
- Port - 22
- download-a-car
yea if ur looking for a linux iso this is a thing for you
- Server info
- Server name on tailscale - download-a-car
- ip from the UFF tailscale account: 100.111.163.64
- port - 8080
- How to connect
- in the browser just specify the port after but it should look like http://100.111.163.64:8080 but you might need to change the ip if its different on your tailscale account
- username - admin, pw Haxxerperson
If you have any questions always feel free to ask! And if you have any suggestions or requests for services that you might need or want also lmk! If you want to expand the network with your own servers or anything I would be happy to collaborate!
The servers should generally be accessible but there might be moments when they are offline for cleaning or maintenance or just random issues but I dont think that happens very often.
